Energy performance requirements for windows, doors and skylights (collectively referred to as fenestration) have become more stringent in recent years. Energy performance is now regulated through building codes as well as the BC Energy Efficiency Act (EEA). Incentive programs such as LiveSmart BC encourage homeowners to renovate with ENERGY STAR qualified products. Some of the requirements are directed at registered professionals and others at manufacturers. This HPO bulletin clarifies the energy performance requirements for windows, glazed doors and skylights used in residential buildings, and provides a roadmap for compliance.
