Thursday, March 18, 2010 - Luncheon - Chief Kim Baird, Tsawwassen First Nation
Tsawwassen First Nation is Open for Business!
In April 2009, TFN ratified the first urban treaty in British Columbia, reconciling their aboriginal rights and title, and fulfilling their right to self-government. The Treaty provides TFN with municipal-like jurisdiction over a land base of 724 hectares (1,800 acres) and allowed it to become a full member of the regional district of Metro Vancouver. This historic achievement has paved the way for new economic stability and future growth.
As one of the most progressive and innovative First Nations in Canada, TFN is now poised to unlock the potential of their strategically located lands by inviting partners to realize this unprecedented opportunity and take an active role in the development of TFN’s industrial, residential and commercial lands.
Chief Kim Baird will provide UDI members with an overview of how TFN achieved this unique position, TFN's vision for economic self sufficiency, and details on the long and short term development opportunities.
