Brownfield Redevelopment
The School of Construction and the Environment at BCIT are holding a series of courses in Brownfield Redevelopment in support of BC’s Brownfield Renewal strategy. The purpose of the program is to provide current and prospective practitioners in the brownfield redevelopment industry with the relevant knowledge and skills within an interdisciplinary framework. Starting in December 2009, the suite of part time studies courses will include an introduction to brownfield redevelopment, planning and environment, legal and finance, technical and environmental strategies, and land development and real estate of brownfield redevelopments.

Monthly Green Roof Research Facility

Green roofs or living roofs provide a natural solution to current urban environmental problems. Our two main research areas include using green roofs to increase thermal efficiency and manage storm water of a building.
Subject: A general over view about green roof applications will be presented in a 30 minute presentation which includes an introduction to the historical and global case studies, types, benefits, and barriers of the implementation of green roofs. As well as a quick glance at CAGRT’s first year research results. The second half of the presentation will demonstrate the implementation, define the materials and construction, substrate and plants/planting technology, and some design guidelines used to build the research facility’s green roof. After the presentation there will be a mini tour of the research facility.
